Just fire up WC3 and play a round of Warlocks and you'll understand what I mean.ĭota 2 custom maps will never be as robust and popular as the custom maps in WC3 were. They feel glitchy, slow and boring because of the lack of interesting props and game mechanic that is best described as a "one trick pony". Dota2 was just not thought out as a game with custom map support and this is plainly obvious if you play any of the available custom maps. WC3 was full of resources, many different units and props already available and easy to access, scripts were easy to design and implement and people with ideas could just start up the editor and start creating. But if you start simple, ask things around and do a fair share of trial and error, you might manage something and find it enjoyable Dota 2 custom maps will never be as robust and popular as the custom maps in WC3 were. If you really want to jump into the Beta, expect implementing complex mechanics to be easy and all the documentation and tutorials already written, you're gonna have a hard time (or give up on the 1st day). What you are trying to accomplish is complex and not beginner friendly (Dota is not an RTS, but now we can do more things than before).
